Cat City or Kuching is located in Sarawak, borneo of Malaysia. Took one half hour flight to this city's annual marathon. This is the first run-cation trip 'oversea' for Xcosmo runners(me and Fazlee). Upon arrival, we took a cab from the airport to the city then meet up our college friend Heikal. He took us around and had some local dishes for lunch. On the race day, woke up around 3 am and get ready before our flagoff at 5 am for Half Marathon category. Everything, went smooth as we leave our luggage, warming up and meetup the other ACAC geng near the starting line. The weather was nice yet still dark, somewhere around the dark roads a girl wrong footed and fell on the tarmac(face first) beside Fazlee. Someone behind us her helped, then we continued our run. Hopefully that she is fine.
I manage to maintain my pace & heart rate as I planned then on the final 4km after the last hill I speed up till I slipped my sunglasses (lucky its 'uptown'), continue speed up then 800 meters to the finish line started to feel a bit cramp but I quickly ignore it. Finishing line in sight, in my mind felt relief while cheerleaders by the roadside cheering for me and I saw in my right hand my sunglasses which I didn't wear the whole run. So, what the heck..I put them on and wave to the cheerleader girls. Only a couple step to the finish line, i got CRAMP! No kidding, I struggle for the last steps. Just hope that they(cameraman) did not capture that embarrassing moment. LOL~
To summarize, it felt like 'athlete's village' during our stay at Kuching. Most of the hotels and town filled with athlete coming from all over for the marathon event. The scenery and crowd along the way was very supportive and friendly. People say that third ones is a charmer, well I got my Personal Best on my third Half Marathon.
